- Growers Should Charge More for their Corn
I would like to respond to your question of the month in the Vegetables Growers News. (Should growers charge more for their sweet corn?)
Growers should charge more for their corn. We have a 130-acre farm. We operate a year round farm market. We have been operating the market for 10 years. Our market has the reputation of having good quality sweet corn, and we sold our corn for $3.50 per dozen during the whole season of the year 2001.
The problem is that there are farmers in the area that grow a little extra corn, and put a sign along the road for $1 per dozen or maybe $2.50 per dozen. That makes us look like we are over-charging.
Give the public a good product, and they dont mind paying for good quality.
