- Strawberry Growers Summer Bus Tour in Nova Scotia August 19-21

- The North American Strawberry Growers Association (NASGA) will hold its summer bus tour in Nova Scotia, Canada Aug. 19-21. After a welcoming dinner on Sunday, Aug. 19, two full days of stops will take place.
Stops on Monday, Aug. 20
- Glenn Hebb Farm, Bridgewater. This sixth generation family farm includes vegetables, apples, small fruit, cranberries, farm market and wholesale.
Ross Farm Museum includes an on-site demonstration on how a farm in Nova Scotia was run in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Blueberry Acres. This stop includes lunch as well as tour of high bush picking and fresh market packing facilities.
Agriculture Canada Research Station, Kentville, a breeding center for strawberries, raspberries and other small fruit.
Grand Pre Historic Park. This is the site where the Acadian (French) people in Nova Scotia were gathered together before deportation to several areas of the United States.
Grand Pre Winery & Restaurant. This includes dinner and a tour of the winery.
Stops on Tuesday, Aug. 21
Historic Gardens includes large landscaped display of trees and flowers.
Fort Ann. Tour of first permanent English settlement in North America.
Rolf Meyers Farm, one of the first farms in Nova Scotia to make wide use of plastic mulch and drip irrigation on vegetable crops. In the last two-three years the farm has put a lot of effort into strawberry production on black plastic using plugs.
Webster Farms or Wheatons Christmas Tree Farm & Craft Shop. Webster Farms is operated by three brothers who grow strawberries, rhubarb for processing, dry beans, grain and have a box mill making strawberry boxes. They have their own processing facilities for rhubarb and do some strawberries as well.
C.O. Keddy Nursery. Informal tour and BBQ. This nursery grows strawberry plants, raspberry canes, rhubarb roots and asparagus crowns. They also have a herd of 100 cattle and grow grain, hay and corn.
Cost of the tour is $325 per person based on double occupancy or $385 per person for single occupancy. The registration fee includes two nights hotel, seven meals, all tour stop entrance fees, gratuities and transportation fees. Tour participation is on a first come, first served basis.
