The 2000 Late Blight Field Day will be held at the Michigan State University (MSU) Muck Research Farm in Bath, Mich., Thursday, Aug. 24.
The event is sponsored by MSU and the Michigan Potato Industry Commission. The field day will begin at 3 p.m. and conclude with a hog roast beginning at 5 p.m.
Griffin will again host the field day. Bob Van Arkel, territory manager for Griffin, indicated he is pleased to be the hosting firm of the day. Griffin is the manufacturer and marketer of Super Tin, Manzate/Manex and Kocide fungicides, Early Harvest plant growth regulator, along with Lorox and Boa herbicides.
MSUs Muck Research Farm will contain seven acres of potato trials during the 2000 growing season, including new chemistry trials, chemigation trials and variety trials.
The Michigan State University Muck Research Farm is a unique location for potato research, said Willie Kirk, MSUs late blight expert. It is in a location that can stress potatoes in numerous ways. And that is just what a research scientist likes to see. This is a great opportunity to see our work first hand. We are open to visitors all the time. However, the field day is a time to see our work and meet the staff of the late blight lab and other researchers.
The potato commission is pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor this event, said Ben Kudwa, MPIC executive director.
